Kx500 chain slider clearance
Kx500 chain slider clearance
Just finished restoring a 1993 kx500 and am having a strange issue with the chain clearance in between the roller and slider. Everything has been replaced as far as chain rollers, chain guide and chain slider with oem parts. The issue is when bike is on stand there is very little clearance on between the slider and lower roller causing the rear wheel to not free spin. It will spin but with quite a bit of resistance. The chain is a standard DID non oring chain. Have never ran into anything like this with a dirt bike new or used, if someone would have the clearance they have on their 500 at that spot that may help. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

That roller was most likely replaced with one that is larger then stock.
It happened to me several years ago.
I'll try to remember to measure a stock one tomorrow and get a pic for you.
If I forget, send me a PM..
I don't mean to forget I just have too much going on this time of year

That’s what I have been thinking. As far as I know I replaced the rollers with the factory size which should be 34mm. I could be wrong about that.

Both my bikes are 34mm.
I couldn't get a pic but it's fairly tight in there...

Possible that with brand new slider and roller it could be very tight? Stock 14/47 gearing, stock suspension and linkage so I’m thinking it could possibly be that right from the factory. Thanks for the reply.

Re: Kx500 chain slider clearance
Your gearing is fine,
If your rear wheel is turning rough I would put the roller on the end of a screw driver and run it on a grinder wheel or sander disc for a bit taking off a MM or two and see if that is better..
