Should we drag it behind a sand-rail? Or better yet, under the rear fender if your K5? :)

After 3 months of sitting in the direct weather I am starting to see some first signs of the untreated aluminum oxidizing.

It's very hard to see any difference but it is there.
Let's wait a few more months and see what happens...

Cosmoline might be a cheaper alternative thats easy to apply, like wd-40 on your pipe. Wax based that would melt in to the pores on the engine pieces we were discussing

Hmmm.
Never considered that...
I need to get the piece from outside and take some updated pics to see how it is looking.

I have the test piece sitting on top of my shop baking in the sun and exposed to the weather since my original post.
I will pull it down and do a update...

It's been a little over a year since I put the test piece outside and left it exposed to the elements.

You can see here, it hasn't been babied.

This morning I pulled the test peice off the shipping container, wiped it off with a dry red shop rag, put it on the table and snapped a pic.
Here's a close up of the test piece..

So far... Looks good.
No flaking, yellowing, or any signs of trouble.
Looks just about as good as when I placed it outside.
My thoughts to this point are....
I like it.....
But the testing continues...

Almost two years later of sitting directly in the Oregon weather.... All I have done is cleaned it off with a rag. No cleaners, not even water.
