Ok, the plating was actually pretty good...
We could slap in a stock piston and ring set and run it....
But that isn't gonna happen

Flywheel weight...
Hmmmm... Maybe.... Maybe not ...

Nothing cracked, broken or overly worn...
If bikes are for kids I'll never grow up.

And of course... It wouldn't be right to do this level of build without a 2 piece clutch cover..

My initial thoughts is the engine is in really good shape.
The only negative is the crank to bearing fit was a little looser then I would like but I have not measured it yet.
No biggie... I'm going to use that crank anyway... :D
I'll try to get it torn all the way down later today so I can really check it thoroughly...

Ok... it's all apart except for the exhaust valves and the gears on the trans shafts.
That will happen later today..
So far so good..

Any KX500 build should keep one thing in mind... Build that bottom end like you want it to last forever... cause it won't
But, there are several things you can do to ensure that it last's a good long time...
Number one.... INSPECT EVERYTHING!!!!
Every gear should be carefully measured and inspected..

A steady hand, a keen eye, and attention to detail, makes Jason Tanner (JT Engine Works) crucial to a project of this magnitude.

Even if you think you know the manual forwards and backwards... keep it handy... You never know when it can save you from a glitch in the matrix :?

This is probably the nicest used trans from a KX500 that I have seen in the recent past but leave it to Jason to find some gears that just aren't up to his standards.

Today Jason tested the Stator for resistance...
And when it comes to Ohms specs... Always believe the book :-)
The last thing we need is to have electrical problems on this bike... :o
