Motorrads Jeff Ward engine build series 3
Motorrad:
Motors coming out of bike
Pmcg:
Love it. I have Round 2 bookmarked and have read it at least 12 times.
sandblaster:
Seriously.. That's all? cheesy
Sooooo... What is this engine going to be used for ?
Wouldn't happen to have anything to do with a rule book you posted a bit ago would it?
Motorrad:
Could.
Items on the agenda.
Remove stuffer crank and install new stock balanced crank
Remove overdrive 5th and replace with stock
New piston with port changed
New plating
Change port timing
Re cut head and re design chamber/ squish
sandblaster;
Ohhh Yeah....
Which main bearings?
Motorrad:
What ya mean?
Also plan on reverse parallel cooling
Big water pump
Redo clutch water outlet
sandblaster:
Ceramic or standard bearings?
I considered reverse parallel cooling my K5SM but if it ran any cooler it might cold seize grin
Probably have to wait till next summer to try it.
Motorrad:
have a NOS crank on the bench.
and a 90MM piston showed up on friday.
grin
sandblaster:
KX547...... Sweet cool
Unless there is more to the crank story.
Pmcg:
How do you plan on dealing with the KIPS? As I understand it 88 is the biggest you can go without moving them around.
Motorrad:
Answer is in round 2
Had kips wall welded up etc
Pmcg:
ahhh yes
suicyde:
I just wanted to chime in......Thanks Motorrad, for documenting all this, and sharing it with us all. It has been quite the journey!
Brute:
You know the page number?!?!?! Wow. Someone as OCD as I am. Weird. tongue Is a fun read!

sandblaster:
I hate to admit it but I started making a table of contents for it...
Motorrad;
My NOS crank is going into a set of V-blocks to see how true it is... tomarow or thursday (when ever I get around to cleaning all the grunge off my V-blocks
anyone want to start a Cash Pool, closest guess to how far out a Factory NOS crank is gets the Cash?
sandblaster:
Measuring just the journals?
Motorrad:
What else would you measure? Huh
sandblaster:
I've learned that it's best to be clear, especially if money is on the line smiley
Motorrad:;
no guess's from anyone?
J.ellwanger:
never been inside, to see a crank for myself, but im guessing there's only main, and not rod...?
.360... but that might be a lot of play... been a while since ive used those numbers, cant remember a few /32, or /64...
enough to throw it out off. but then IM not sure what the good measurements are, (brand new). SO DONT HATE. plz.
Ill use this number
.147 that's my Final Answer (this is the $.75 Large question right?)
81cr450:
lol that makes my number HUGE! lol, im just not sure of what wear goes, on, or how Exactly it wears down....
(besides going in a circular motion, i got that much)
explains my number
sandblaster:
.0002" Total Indicated Runout is my Guess...
J.ellwanger:
.... shouldve stayed out of this... undecided
Motorrad:
pullin motor from bike tonight.
Jug going out for plate on monday.
if anyone wants any pictures of anything specific. speak up now...
Motorrad:
deed is done. motors on the bench.

Doubtful mine was a backup bike. The Powder coat on the steering stops wasn't even shipped when I got it. Mine never saw any real race (abuse) time
motopunk;
but regardless also a big deal. there no much guys, that owns one of these team green bikes... wink
sandblaster:
I'd sure like to see that HUGE piston..

sandblaster:
Wish I could borrow one of those cylinders for just a day... I'm sure I could learn a thing or two.... shocked
Motorrad:
sure you would know what to look for?
sandblaster:
It's really hard to say.
I'm really good at comparing
Perhaps I might not catch everything but, it would certainly answer some of my questions I keep pestering you about grin
And, after playing with my cylinder collection for about the last 6 months or so, I'm in a much better position to know what to look for then I was when I started.
Motorrad:
Want them to take a detour to your place on the way to the plater?
sandblaster;
I certainly would smiley
PJSMAN;
What is the M stamped on the cylinders? Is that one of Tom Morgan's Stamps?
sandblaster;
Flying M is for Motorrad cool
Pmcg:
Can you take a picture from the bottom of the cylinder?

USMC 500:
I don't know why, but I get the chills seeing these 2 K5 jugs sitting side by side..... grin
motopunk:
looking at that, makes the idea of an 2-cylinder engine with 1000cc ... grin
81cr450:
Looks like like alot of broken head studs, or am I seeing things?
Motorrad:
Your seeing things. No studs are there
Sweet talk sandblaster on that one. they are in the mail to him
head MVS numbers. whats everyone run? (I dont need your top secret angles and widths) just what MVS you have found to work. and for what riding.
thinking my current MVS is a bit agressive for desert (long WOT stretches). and would be more suited for hill shooters.
sandblaster:
I will have many pics available cheesy
