Post by shue415 » Sat Jun 17, 2017 2:53 am

Hey Guys
I had larry do the compression release on my Kx 500 head,It works awesome,I love it
I used the Stock kawasaki Head gasket,0.4
What thickness should I have used?It seems like the jetting is very rich off the bottom now
I have a 55 pilot,2 turns out on the air screw,Im in Iowa,about 1200 ft elevation
Thank you

Well... That is a hard question to answer because it depends on a few different factors.
When your piston is a top dead center what is the distance from the top of the piston to the deck of the cylinder?
.4mm is .017"
I try to run .010" but have had to run a .050" :o
The other measurement we would need is the step in the head.
We also need the kind of fuel you run as well as the type of riding you do.
Sooooo...... When we have all that info we can give you a better idea of were to go.
Will it hurt to run a .4mm gasket?
Not necessarily.
In fact most K5's are pretty loose from the factory so your likely ok.
Jetting...
2 turns out is a little fat.
The closer you get to 1.5 the better.
What clip is the needle on?

I would drop to a 52 pilot and see where your idle screw ends up at.
If it is much below 1.5 turns better put the 55 back in.
What is your ratio of pump gas to VP?
With a stock engine you generally need very little VP.
Remember, the more VP you use with a stock engine over what it needs the more power you can loose.
What ratio is your oil to gas mix?
Let me know what you come up with.

Most modern oils recommend 40:1 or even less...
I run 50:1 and have so for years with no issues.
I would contact Klotz and see what they recommend... It could shock you
And remember... More oil makes a leaner mixture because you have less fuel..
So find out what Klotz recommends... then jet accordingly...
