1988 Honda XR100R

Well here is my sad little bike I traded a saddle for. I call it sad because some "artist" decided that since his dad lived in the country he should paint it camo so no one would see it and steal it, true story! :lol: It is in good shape aside from the paint. The only issue I am having now is getting it to start easy and idle for me. I joked I found a new workout with it called kickstarting. ;) I may or may not keep it, really wanted a street bike, partly because I have no one to trail ride with, but it is an awful sweet little fast sucker. If making it a dual sport was not such a pain and cost a mint I would just do that.

Hey Kattotonic.
Welcome to the site and posting about your bike.
I'll tell you, that is a LOT better then my first bike, and they are bullet proof (Almost) :D
If your having a hard time starting it, can you tell us what all you have done to it?
Also, do you have a service manual for it?
If bikes are for kids I'll never grow up.

Oh, and paint stripper will get rid of most of the camo if you don't like it.
Or, you can update the camo by getting some green, brown, and grey paint, some tape for masking, and some local leafs...
It's amazing what can be done...
But mask off areas not being painted.
Nothing is more horrifying then a rattle canned bike with over spray all over the place. :shock:

Well I got rid of the old gas and paid the big bucks for the clean stuff, added some fuel system cleaner and changed out the fuel filter. The guy did say it had sat for a year, so I bet that is part of the problem. I still need to pull the plug and see how it looks as well. I was thinking of just rebuilding the carb, wouldn't hurt, that is for sure, never done that before, but I rebuild a VW one, not too different I would think. And no I need a repair book for it. Though not a dirt bike I scored a honda elite 150 scooter too for 50 bucks lol, so that is another project I have in the works as well.

Ok, with today's gas it's almost a certainty that your pilot jet is a bit plugged up.
I would remove the bowl off the carb.
Then unscrew both the pilot and main jet.
Hold them up to the light and make sure they are fully opened.
I like to use a magnifying glass to be sure that there is no obstructions.
Use a piece of wire (I use guitar strings) to thoroughly clean those jets.
I would also remove your air cleaner and wash it thoroughly and then lightly oil it.
If it has any holes, replace the filter.
I would also replace the plug just because but it may still be ok.
Take pics of your work and post it.

I didn't even think about the air cleaner, yea I will check that too, thanks. Not sure when I am going to get to it, since it is getting cold outside and I am wimp lol But thank you for the help.
