I bought something on eBay and there is something wrong with

Post by Sandblaster » Fri Feb 08, 2013 4:34 pm

I bought something on eBay and there is something wrong with it.
What should I do?
First thing is, don't panic.
Go back the the original ad you purchased from and read it carefully.
Is the damage or problem described?
I often wonder how people feel when they send me a scathing email saying that I ripped them off and that if I don't do something they are reporting me to eBay, the police, the FBI, the National Guard, and their mob connected Cousin Vinnie
And then they get a email from me such as the following:
Hello.
I am very sorry for any misunderstanding and I will do my best to make you happy.
I believe that I can clear this up for you if you take just a minute to look at the ad again.
When you get to the ad, take a look at the top middle of the screen.
I guess you didn't see this:

And, if you scroll down a bit further you will see this:

Finally, if you scroll down a few more inches you will see the following:

As you can see, we did our best to make the condition clear.
However, the last thing we need or want is a unhappy customer.
So, feel free to send it back and we will give you a full refund minus shipping.
If you need further details feel free to email us or call us at 541-603-2993.
Sincerely,
xxxxx

Most people are embarrassed that they didn't carefully read the ad BEFORE they made the purchase and they have a change of attitude.

But let's say that after reviewing the ad the damage was not pictured or described?
Should you report it to ebay, the police, the FBI, the National Guard, and your mob connected Cousin Vinnie?
Not yet......
The next thing you should do is...... Drum roll........ Contact the seller!

I know it's hard to believe but good sellers with higher feedback ratings will work with you.
Really?
YES!

Send them an email calmly explaining the details.
If need be send some pics to help better show the condition that you are having a issue with.
Saying something like, "I have not left you feedback yet, but...." is unnecessary.
Sellers are aware if you have or have not left feedback.
Good sellers will take care of you even if you have already left feedback.
So, give them a chance to see what they will do before making threats.

Let's say that you have checked out the ad and the damage wasn't described or pictured.
And let's say that you have attempted to contacted the seller and either you get no response or a very poor one.
What is your next step?
Should you call the police, the FBI, the National Guard, and your mob connected Cousin Vinnie?

NO!

Your next step is to Report a problem.
To report a problem you can go to "My eBay" then open up "Purchase History".
Go down your list of items purchased and find the one with a problem.
To the right of the item you will see some choices.

After clicking on "Resolve a Problem" you will see a screen like this:
1.JPG
1.JPG (35.13 KiB) Viewed 5966 times
Note that you have 4 choices.
1. I Didn't receive my item.
2. I received an item that wasn't as described.
3. I want to cancel a purchase.
4. I want to return this item

If you click on 1. I Didn't receive my item.
You will get a screen that looks like this:
2.JPG
2.JPG (36.8 KiB) Viewed 5966 times
You can do a search but in this example we are only concerned with the two choices,
1. I haven't received an item
2. I need help with an existing case.

If you have not already opened a case then click on 1. I haven't received an item.

Because there has not been much time that has elapsed from the sale of the item to the time of the complaint this is the screen you will get:

I know that many people including myself are anxious to get their parts.
However, be fair to the seller, they don't control any of the shipping companies, (USPS, Fedex, UPS, DHL, or countless others) so cut them some slack.
If it take a long time for the seller to put your part in the mail and it takes considerably longer then the estimated shipping times shown on the ad for the item to show up then you have some reason for concern.

So, go back to this screen:
1.JPG
1.JPG (35.13 KiB) Viewed 5966 times
This time click on 2. I received an item that wasn't as described.
This is the next screen you will see:

Note what eBay suggests to do:
1. Contact your seller and try to work things out.
2. Open a case if you're unable to reach a resolution with your seller.
3. The seller will have seven days to respond to your case.
4. If seven days have passed or the seller has responded but you're not satisfied with the response, you can ask eBay to make a decision on your case.

So, you have contacted the seller and he is unresponsive or says too bad...
Now it's time to open a case.
To do this, click on "Report that you received an item that wasn't as described" as shown below.

This is the screen you will see next:
7.JPG
7.JPG (77.36 KiB) Viewed 5966 times
Because it's been less then 24 hours since the item was purchased, Note what it says to the right:

It's a good idea to try to work things out with the seller first, so we would like you to wait to open a case until 24 hours after you paid. If you have additional questions about your item, please contact the seller.

Then it will show you the sellers return policy.
In this case this is what it is.

Seller's return policy for this item
This item must be returned within 14 days after the buyer receives it. The buyer pays for return shipping. The refund will be given as Money Back.

More details from the seller:
I will give you a refund on any item we sell that is listed as a good usable part. If the auction says that the item is working and it doesn't, contact us and we will issue an RMA with directions on how to return. Call us at 541-603-2993 or email through eBay. YOU MUST CONTACT US WITHIN 14 DAYS OF RECEIVING YOUR ITEM If the part does not fit your bike I WILL REQUIRE YOUR VIN # or Engine ID for verification. If your bike is not the correct year I will still take the part back, however, the buyer will be responsible for all shipping cost. THANKS!
