Apparently long obsolete :(

I've had no luck on finding the power valve rod. Posted on the 3rd Gen KX500 Facebook page, but no luck yet.

I think I have a solution to the power valve rod issue. I have found oak doweling that is quite hard. I have a friend who has a lathe who can whittle it down to the correct diameter for the rod, then we will make replacement power valves in the same manner. From there it will simply be a matter of notching the parts for the gear part. The only thing I have any real concern about is the rate of expansion of the oak vs the aluminum cylinder, but I'll never know unless I try...

Oak?
I wonder how oak will handle temps in the 175-225F range...
Then I wonder about how it will work being soaked in oil?
My guess is it might work for a bit but I doubt it's a viable long term solution.
But if you pull it off, be sure to post pics 8-)
