1986 KX125 ENGINE COLOR MATCHING

Post by Sandblaster » Sat Feb 28, 2015 9:17 pm

I stumbled upon this by accident.
I had a 1986 kx125 head that I wanted to clean up.
So I vapor blasted it, dried it and painted it with some High head black that I had sitting on the shelf, and baked it at 200 degrees F for 1 hour.
Looked great, but I didn't have a clue about the color until I set the head on the cylinder..

It's not a perfect match but if you painted the entire engine you would have a hard time ever knowing that it wasn't factory

So, I'm thinking the 85-87 KX250's and KX500's may be the same..
I'll have to do some research on that...

All things being equal... the case paint is in really bad shape so it really isn't a definitive test...

If I was going to build a earlier KX I'd consider using it.

Unless of course some of you Guru's out there have a better alternative that you would like to share :ugeek:
