Mini 14 rifle... Which version...

Post by Sandblaster » Wed Apr 10, 2013 5:27 am

I want a tactical model but I want it to be as accurate as the target model.
They are all durable and dependable so maybe I should just stick with the Ranch version :)

For those unfamiliar with the Ruger Mini 14 I chose the ranch version.
Why?
For the kind of shooting I do I needed a balance between accuracy and a shorter barrel.
To be honest, most of my shooting is between 25-75 yds so I don't need a target version but occasionally I get out to 125 yds and I didn't want to sacrifice the longer range accuracy that would be suffered with a Tactical version.
After a new Archangel Sparta stock and a Eotech 552 Holographic sight I just need to get it sighted in, then the fun begins..
Here's a pic of one of my friends holding it.

Just for grins I ordered a Laser bore sighter to help get the gun sighted in better and quicker.
It was 10 bucks on eBay so why not.
It comes with batteries and directions, basically don't aim it into your eye and put the batteries in negative end first.
As soon as you install the batteries and screw the cap on the laser comes on.
Put the sighter into your chamber and close it up.
The laser will now be projecting out your barrel.
With my EoTech installed all I had to do was line up the Sight dot with the Laser dot and I was done.
Took all of about 5 minutes from beginning to the end.

The real test will be when I take the rifle out to do some projectile slinging (Shooting).
I don't expect it to be perfect but it should be close.
We'll see ;)
